First let me say what a wonderful project Sandy has organised. This note is to inform (if they haven't discovered this already) the UK knitters re mailing the squares. At first I sent 3 as per instructions for £1.64 but last Friday, 27th March '09, I posted 7 (seven) for £2.33 and next time I'm sending 8 which should only cost a little more! I use the plastic Mail Bags which cost .30 pence from the Post Office - just the right size for our squares. I think 8 is about the right number as the packet is fairly full and quite puffy. The customs Declaration Forms also come from the Post Office and I just put "Knitted Squares" on the form and n/a where the value is. Please note the postage may be going up a little as our 1st Class stamps are going up 3 pence. Anyway I hope this is of help to you. Onwards and upwards with our fantastic project. Tell me what you think - love to hear . OH I write Acrylic on the front - which helps the Soweto Club Sandy said in her instructions.

Ah! What a good idea! Never thought to use the plastic mail bags! Must see if I can buy a stack next time I'm in town. I'm also considering sending them much slower land mail. It might take a few more weeks to get there but I think this project is certainly on its feet so should be fine if my squares trickle in rather then stream!

I know sea mail to South Korea, where my daughter is, takes about 3 months. Hope from the UK to South Africa isn't quite that long! But it's a good idea, since postal rates are much less via sea mail. Well to Korea you've only got options of sea or air mail, maybe you've got more?)

Hi
Just to update you, I have just posted 6 squares and 2 t-jumpers in the plastic postal bags sent by surface mail, it cost £2.14. I was told can take 2 - 12 weeks, but can often get there as quick or shortly after air mail. Hope this is of interest.

I've been told 6 weeks by sea mail from this side of the pond, which is fine as lots of squares have already got there from other people. I too found that mailing more is less--9 squares plus a top was only abit more ($2 cdn) than mailing 3 squares which was $6! Sure pays to find that out quickly.
