The charity group I knit for (amongst others) has free patterns available at their site www.lovinghands.org.uk and its members are very friendly and offer advice to all knitters. I know a lot of members have been sending in squares for Square Circle and Lou the organiser of LH is keeping a total.

Ella,
Loving hands looks wonderful! Gah I wish I had more hours in my day! I'd be stitching all day long!

Loving Hands link is really great. I was looking for an easy toque for babies. Thanks for listing this link.

my favorite free 8 inch squares pattern. Use any needles and any yarn. Cast on one stitch. Knit into front and back of it. Then just garter stitch and increase one stitch at end of each row. Use a cardboard template for 8 inches. Measure with this. Then to decrease. decrease one stitch at end of each row. It always end up 8 inches. you could measure with a paper template 8 inches square. Its diagonal. Garter stitch. You can use bigger wool and bigger needles or smaller wool and smaller needles.
