I see I'm the first person to write here, I think. Your newsletter via email is so much more thorough than I expected and I love it. I didn't realize you were such a brand new group. I've sent over 9 squares so far and am making more. I'm working on getting the hang of packaging them efficiently, labeling them correctly (which I didn't do to start with, I find), and getting friends to help make some squares. I'm a crocheter and this is very good therapy for me to do something snappy quick, and know it's helping someone else. Thanks for keeping us informed so well!

I, too, am excited about how quickly the squares can be made. I love to crochet but am slow! I have completed 11 squares so far. I am the leader of a group of knitters/crocheters (not sure those are words!) called Close Knit Chicks. I have shared this project with them and our goal is 200 squares by May 1st!

I certainly do love the quick and simple aspect of making these squares! So nice to relax in front of the TV and make some squares.
Good Luck with the 200 squares! I bet you all will do it no trouble! ;D

Hello to all my fellow knitters and crocheters. I guess that's a word...lol It looks funny in print, though..."crocheters". I just love the whole idea of this. I used to live in S.Afrcia (I live in Texas now)and I know what a worthwhile project this is...
What I really like is the way I can do these squares when I want to do "mindless" knitting. I always have a project nearby, but sometimes I want to knit and talk or watch TV and most of my projects are the kind where you have to count and pay attention or you end up ripping out rows... which is not my favorite thing in the world to do.
So when I want to keep my hands busy but not think...this is perfect!
I've already made two little vests and several squares. Need to get them in the post now.
Hope everyone is having a great day and finding time to knit a little! ;)Kate~

I have only knitted 2 squares so far... just started Monday... I love doing this 'mindless' knitting too when I am watching television. I feel so blessed to be able to help these children in my own small way. God is good! Hugs

Hi Sandy, Sounds like a doable goal for you and your group. Wish there was a group near me. I can't seem to connect with any other knitters, although I know they must be out there. Good luck with your goal. Bea

Hi, all! I live in Alexandria, VA, and am having a problem finding a kintting/crochet group, also. As for yarn, I had a large trash bag full of woolen yarn in my attic that I didn't know what to do with. I have a habit of buying bags of mixed yarn at my local thrft shop and some of the yarns are in small amounts. This is a perfect use! I just hope I can find enough bright colors to use.

Hello all Would it be helpful if I put a page up on the site to ask knitters and 'crocheters' to to come to the forum and perhaps Kerry can put up a Form a Square Circle connections page. Also I did put up some ideas on how to get a group together on the Square Circle page on the site., with an invitation: www.knit-a-square.com/knitting-circle.htmlIt would be nice to record the square circles all around the world wouldn't it. Could add them to the map on the knit-a-square hero's page. Sandy

Hi dorknob: I live near Harrisonburg, Virginia! So glad to know you're not too far away working for the same charity and so excited about this! The best thing now about my day is coming home and looking on the internet to see if there's any cheap yarn that's brightly colored for these children. I can only imagine the work on the other end when they're about completed with a blanket and trying to decide who get's this one now! I wish I could be there to see all the happy eyes waiting for theirs and just know how much love and care goes into making them! I almost wanna cry right now! I do have plenty of acrylic (beautiful, every color you can imagine) so I think I'll start knitting some of that up instead of buying wool yarn. I've got totes and totes of acrylic! Any kind or color will be used in a blanket and that's just great to know!! Have a good day!

Hi everyone. I'm brand new today so bare with me while I learn how to get around the boards. I just started my first square today and so tickled to have found this organization. After knitting for many years for family, friends, myself and gifts. It finally sunk in why the lord gifted me with this wonderful hobby. It's my way to give back. God bless the little children all over the world. I knit for another childrens group and I'm honored to be here. By the way......I'm in California.

I agree Sophie, I felt a thrill when I found this charity, I know I'm meant to be here. These squares I can do as my health permits. Dorknob you will find that using a darker drabber colour but including a few stripes of some bolder colour will make the brighter colour just "pop". This is a way to use up darker shades when you've only got limited amount of brights. Use them in a couple of stripes in the square, it really works! Blessed I agree that "crocheters" looks funny in print. I do know of a courageous group that calls itself "The Happy Hookers" but I'm not quite ready to go there myself yet, LOL.
