I note that some people speak of using cotton yarn or cotton yarn combo'd with other yarns to make up the squares. Is this wise? Cotton is flammable, it is used for candle wicks in some instances. Just wondering if this compromises the safety of wool squares if cotton is combo'd with it?

I think that cotton is probably safe - when I tried to burn a strand, I found it self-extinguishes very quickly - probably not more than 1/2" of the strand burned before it went out. found the same with the 100% wool and the mohair. I am wondering if this is true of all natural fibres.
Perhaps someone has some futher comments on the safety of natural fibres??

Grannie you have a point...maybe that's why they use cotton for candle wicks after all, slow burning if at all...DUH. So it's surrounded by wax which burns nicely. I was just wondering. I do have some cotton worsted yarn around here but don't know if it's wanted or not. It seems warm enough made up. I hope someone lets us know if cotton yarn is okay and/or wanted over there.

Cotton yarn is being accepted at this point, but it is possible that that will change as more research is being done - but that goes for any yarn. Bamboo, for example, is biodegradable, so I don't imagine that would be the best choice of yarn either.
