Some of my squares are not exactly 8" square (but almost!) Will they be alright?

Hehe, when you say almost... how almost? Millimeters, centimeters or inches out?

just re-measured them, some are perfect and a couple are 1/2 an inch too small, but no more than that Wondering if perhaps I could do some sort of an edge around them

Humm perhaps an edge might be a good idea. I'm not sure what the allowance is. I'll ask Sandy next time I e-mail her & let you know.

Ok I double checked! 1/2 an inch short should be fine. It can always be stretched a little or placed next to a slightly bigger square. No need to go all out adding boarders

If you mainly knit but can crochet, it's much easier just to add a small number of single crochet rows on the shorter sides to square everything up. I did that recently with a bunch of squares made for some blankets for another cause by our local church women. Due to yarn variances the squares varied, we made them all uniform with added crochet edges on the short bits. The long ones...well...if you make them 10x10 then two sewn together on both sides, leaving a gap up top for armholes and 2 inches sewed together on each top side for shoulder seams gives you the square top doesn't it? (it does in crochet at least) Just a thought.
Also a warning, any wool blend including mohair will GROW on you. I started an 8x8 square in crochet in a blend that I didn't realize had mohair in it though the softness should have tipped me off. Within 5 rows it had expanded sideways to 10 inches at which point I went "oh no", experimentally pulled lightly on it and saw it expand to 12 inches with ease and no distortion. So avoid mohair at all costs or anything blended with it. Just FYI. The original warning comes from a knitwear/crochetwear designer who found the sleeves on a sweater she made for a fashion magazine cover photo grew 2 inches each in a week by themselves. She had to clothespin it onto the model. Luckily it didn't show in the photo, lol.
