Phew! What a busy few weeks it's been!
I first saw knit-a-square on Lion Yarn Brands e-zine (as I'm sure is the story with most people), I was instantly taken & raided my stash. A few false starts and worries about wool vs acrylic and I was off.
I felt I wanted to get more involved so here I am. I'm really looking forward to meeting people who also are getting all wrapped up in making squares!
I also love making Amigurumi creatures, I love the extra cuteness! I'm currently making a Bubblegum Bunny for a friends 30th on Sunday. My mum donated a bunch of nice bright baby wool for me to make squares out of. I mixed a blue and a pink together to make a pretty square. After making two squares out of the stuff I just KNEW it needed to be a bunny too! Oh well I will just have to buy some more nice bright colorful wool to replace the donated wool from my mum!
I really love getting new bright wool and imagining how delighted a child might be with the interesting colors!

Hello Kerry First I won't excuse myself for my bad English. I live in Belgium and have since 2007 a little shop with yarns, embroidery ... This week we started in my shop (thanks to my clients) with knitting and crochet squares. I've send an email to our major for financial support for sending the squares. Until now he didn't response on it. But I continuing trying for it. My knitters our enthousiast and so you see also in Belgium we don't forget the African kids. I hoop that we all together can make the different for who it needs. Kind regards Ingrid

What a brilliant idea to involve your customers in your stitching Ingrid! I bet Ronda will be very happy to receive your squares!
Your English is just fine! Better than I could do at another language!

Hi Ladies, I also found out about Knit-a-square from the Lion's Yarn newsletter. What a great service they did by including this info! I am excited and honoured to be able to help the less fortunate. I have so much excess yarn to use up that it will be a joy to make these squares. Thank you for starting up this worthy project. God bless you all. Hugs ML

Hi there from Chesapeake, Virginia in the US. I am so thrilled to start to take part in this mission. I love what you all are doing and I felt called to join in, so you will start seeing things from us; us being my family who have all started to knit and crochet, even my 9 year old daughter. We are thrilled to help anyone in need, but we have a burden in our heart for those of Africa. Thank you for forming this wonderful ministry. Have a blessed weekend.

Hi Kerry What a brilliant idea the forum is and what a brilliant job you have done setting it all up. I'm sure everyone involved will all feel the same. I first came across Knit a square just before Christmas last year - browsing the internet for sites relating to 'knitting for charity' - this was the one that struck me as being well worth supporting and it seems things are going from strength to strength. It is the least we can do for the children of Africa. Kind regards. Poppyfield

I have been crocheting and knitting for 3 or 4 other charities, but have an interest in this one, also. My daughter and I went on safari to Africa (Botswana and Zambia) a few years ago and we visited a couple of schools for orphaned children. They don't have much in worldly goods, but they are such happy children. Something as small as a pencil makes them so happy! We met many people who are doing good works there.

Thanks Poppyfield. I've just really been making it up as I go along so I apologise if I seem a little lost at times!
Thanks to everyone who joined the forum! It won't be interesting unless you all post about all the fun and interesting things you are doing!

Pam, I copied this off the original site. It has the address and everything else you'll need. I hope this was what you wanted. For all forms of postage, single, packages, parcels and boxes 1. Please make sure that the squares will be protected from damp, either by wrapping them in a plastic bag, bubble wrap or by using postal bags with inner plastic coating. 2. Use tape around the plastic bag to seal well in order to reduce the risk of moisture damage 3. So that we can acknowledge receipt of the squares, write your name and return address on the back of the envelope and secure well with tape 5. Address to: Knit-a-square, Soweto Comfort Club, Private Bag X900 Bryanston 2021 South Africa 6. Please mark on outside of envelope: ONE KNITTED SQUARE ONLY for one square, or KNITTED SQUARES ONLY 7. Also mark on the envelope: WOOL or ACRYLIC

Hi, My name is karen. I can't knit to save my life, but my Mom and daughter are avid knitters. I love this project and Veronica is knitting profusely for the cause. They have single handedly made 1 and a half blankets and have solicited much yarn and squares and promises of knitted and crocheted squares from friends and family. We are having a lot of fun and Veronica may be talking on this page sometimes. Good Luck and happy knitting!! Karen

Hello all you lovely people, this is amazing. I get dizzy trying to add up all the squres but it seems that there are hundreds on their way, which is exactly what we need. Well thousands rteally, but from small acorns grow large trees! Between us we will put blankets around many thousands of children. How wonderful is that. Sandy PS Yes and Kerry is doing a fabulous job. Have a lok at the heroes page on the site: www.knit-a-square.com/charity-knitting-heroes.html
