Wow, this is amazing. You may have all read Kyla's post (knitting craft show mississauga) regarding starting the first knit-a-square-on-the-go relay on May 2nd at Port Credit Secondary School as part of a charity fund-raising day for Interim Place, which is a battered women and children’s shelter.
What is involved is setting up a table and a circle of chairs with a couple sets of knitting needles (crochet hooks) and baskets of yarn and asking people to sit and chat and have a cup of tea while knitting/crocheting a few rows onto one of these 8x8” squares. Then the squares can be left on the chairs when the person moves on, and the next person picks up from where they left off. It aims to be educational as well and productive.
Kerry initially came up with this idea for the i-knit weekender in London in September, which we hope will happen too.
Anyway, Erin (SA moderator) in the forum has said she will host a similar event on the same day in South Africa.
So of course we have said we will do the same in Melbourne (in Federation Square (Squares within the Square!) - waiting to hear if that will be okay),
Here’s the challenge. How many cities, towns, villages can we host an event on the same day May 2nd? The beauty of it is that it is not really that hard, trestle table, few deck chairs, and urn, few friends and family handing out flyers and making cups of tea.
We will make downloadable posters, flyers and press releases available for any such events. Imagine the photogallery, the INAUGURAL knit a square on the go (and most importantly the number of squares) .
