I found some bright and cheery colours of "feather boa" yarn in the $1 store, colorfast etc. (100% polyester) and it works up GREAT in combo with a variegated but abit thin acrylic yarn I've got. In fact I'm using a 6.5mm hook (J) and these two yarns together work up really quick in double crochet and the texture is amazing, truly looks like feathers and there's no holes. I think the kids will love a square of this in their blankets, it's so soft to touch and silky, and warm. Anyways just had to share. I'm so excited about this combo that I picked up several balls of the feather boa yarn to mix with some other thinnish acrylic yarns I've got sitting around. Yeehaa!

Jeanne, I've had a couple balls of the stuff donated to me as well, and man are they soft. I doubled it up with a white acrylic for the most part, and i ended up with a nice thick and quite warm pair of squares. they are strange looking things indeed with all the feathery ends sticking out all over the place, but very cosy.

Imagine how fun those will be for the kids! I have a couple of balls as well and had no idea what to do with them. Thanks for the ideas!

You're very welcome Andrea. It was like a lightbulb went on over my head! Some of the feather boa yarns have fancy washing instructions but the ones I've got say "wash and wear" on the labels, as well as colorfast, an important quality. Depending on what colour acrylic yarn I use as the "base" the square looks quite different. Using a white would really make the feather boa yarn colours 'pop'.
